Congratulations to our large and very successful chess team. We had our best team result ever, being placed third among the competing schools at last Friday's Day of Chess.  I have received very positive reports about their behaviour and dedication to the chess competition throughout the day.

Laurieton Public School chess team

Max Newell stood out for our school, finishing in 4th place overall (on 5 points), which is a great result against some quality opposition.  Westport Public School again dominated, winning for the 16th time in a row, but we are closing the gap.  Mr Timmins has declared his intention to bring them down, so I expect to see more chess practice than ever before we do battle again in October.

Other excellent scores were recorded by the following students.
