Last year the Laurieton Public School SRC, coordinated by Mrs Carlton held an art competition. Students created colourful heart and peace symbols with the winning entries forming the main design element on patchwork quilts and on student art folders.
Selected students transferred their artworks onto fabric using fabric paint and crayons.
Sally Sainsbury was instrumental in the project, working tirelessly to prepare materials, seek donations of fabrics and in enlisting volunteers to assist. She placed countless hours of her own time into the finishing touches of each quilt and folder.
As result of everyone's efforts, the stunning quilts and folders will be given to children staying at Ronald McDonald House as a keepsake, but also as a reminder that people care.
The students at LPS have an increased awareness of how lucky they are to be healthy and believe that everyone can help make the lives of those less fortunate, a little bit happier.
The quilts and art folders were presented to Nibby Burke, of Forster Craft to be presented to Ronald McDonald House in Forster, for distribution.
The project will continue in 2017 ….
