2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test

In Term 3, 2017 (11-15 September ) our Year 3 and 5 students will participate in a NAPLAN School Readiness Test. Information is available for Schools and Parents to support the transition from paper based NAPLAN testing to the new Online NAPLAN testing to be used from 2018. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. Regional Debating Workshop

Laurieton Public School played host to several schools from the Lower North Coast at the recent Regional Debating Workshop. Last Thursday Lucas Alley, Jayden Lucas, Oakley Lucas, Aashraya Phuyal, Seth Krstin, Hope Devine and Bryden Turnbull participated in the Regional Debating Workshop in our school hall. Participation in netball is at an all time high at Laurieton Public School! On Wednesday, 33 students from Laurieton Public School attended the Netball NSW Schools Cup gala day in Port Macquarie. This year we entered two Stage 3 teams and one Stage 2 team. It was an extremely busy day, with each team playing five games with a 30 minute rest in between. The level of public speaking at LPS is growing stronger and our recent competition was the perfect stage for it. On Wednesday the Public Speaking Competition finals were held in our school hall. LPS celebrated the Harmony Day with a passport in hand experiencing many different cultures and countries. Here are some of our students reports about the day. What I really loved about Harmony Day was visiting Mexico and Ireland. They were both really fun countries and I learnt a lot about the different cultures. Quilts for Ronald McDonald Family Retreat - Forster

Last year the Laurieton Public School SRC, coordinated by Mrs Carlton held an art competition. Students created colourful heart and peace symbols with the winning entries forming the main design element on patchwork quilts and on student art folders. Selected students transferred their artworks onto fabric using fabric paint and crayons. Sally Sainsbury was instrumental in the project, working tirelessly to prepare materials, seek donations of fabrics and in enlisting volunteers to assist. The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system.
